There is not yet a major recycling program for used EV batteries in the US (Europe does) because spent automotive EV batteries are too useful for storing stationary power. Suppose an EV battery has lost 25% of its original range. That means the battery no longer has enough power to push a car down the road at highway speeds, but it works perfectly well to supply backup power to a home, or to offset electrical grid demand surges or catastrophic power generation failures. For those purposes the demand for used EV batteries far outstrips the supply. Eventually, that will no longer be true, in which case we can expect that EV battery recycling will become a viable industry. For now in the US, eligible EV batteries are being repurposed rather than recycled.
