City of Durango to Discuss New Fast Chargers at the Transit Center – Needs Your Comments & Support!

This is a notification that a public hearing before City Council will be taking place on December 5, 2023 regarding a proposal for an agreement with Tesla to install and operate a Supercharger station at the Durango Transit Center Parking lot. The proposed station would host 8 fast-chargers that would have both Tesla (NACS) and non-Tesla (CCS) plug types.

At the public hearing, Council will receive a presentation from staff, hear comments from the public, and then vote on whether or not to proceed with the agreement and associated installation of the Tesla station. The agenda for the December 5th meeting will be finalized and published by 3pm on Wednesday November 29, and can be found at: https://durangogov.hylandcloud.com/221agendaonline.

If you would like to express your opinion on this matter, you are encouraged to do so through the following channels. You are also welcome to share this notice with anyone else you think would be interested in this matter.

  • Provide public comment at the public hearing: either in-person or over Zoom (www.DurangoGov.org/Zoom). Depending on the agenda, public comment for a public hearing typically occurs between 6:00 pm and 7:30 pm.
  • Submit a comment via email: [email protected] between now and Monday, Dec. 3rd at 12:00 noon. Please indicate “Ordinance for a License Agreement with Tesla” in the subject line of the email and be sure to include your full name and address for the record.
  • Physical drop-box: Comments may also be placed in the drop box in front of City Hall between now and Monday, Dec. 3rd at 12:00 noon. Please indicate “Ordinance for a License Agreement with Tesla” in the title or subject line of your letter and be sure to include your full name and address for the record.
  • You may also submit a comment to City Council through the online comment portal (https://durangogov.org/FormCenter/City-Clerks-Office-2/Contact-City-Council-115) However, comments received in this way may not be considered part of the official public record related to the public hearing.
